In the end, that is all that most people are really fighting for anyway- they just don't realize it!The Hojnackeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11831225232147068760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-294699315718764344.post-91133101084647963492014-07-31T19:21:55.276-04:002014-07-31T19:21:55.276-04:00Real geeks can like fashion, even wear fashion.......Real geeks can like fashion, even wear fashion....we just might not follow the fashion! ;-)
My daughters and I are as girly as any other woman, we all like pretty stuff, we're all geeks, but none of us dress the same and they sure don't look like the "cookie cutter" girls at school.
We're geeks, we're different, we can still be feminine, pretty, and fashionable...we just do it with our own rules!
And your dress is gorgeous! I much prefer being in the happy look-at-me mental place; maybe that's a character flaw but I'll take it. It's never been about following trends, though, although I do very grudgingly try to keep in roughly the same orbit as mainstream. It pisses me off a lot, though.

Of course who and what we are inside is what's important. I still don't know if I'd say fashion is IMPORTANT. But it's fun. And it's not like you can NOT engage in fashion. Even the most neutral options still communicate shitloads about ourselves, whether we want them to or not. So we might as well have fun with it!

And your pink rose dress is fabulous!Tanit-Isishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15824217102632813598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-294699315718764344.post-41796112193597145782014-07-28T22:20:06.526-04:002014-07-28T22:20:06.526-04:00I was definitely one of the book nerds in high sch...I was definitely one of the book nerds in high school. Since it was a small private school, it was pretty much 2 groups - the jocks (aka cool kids) and the nerds (aka those who didn't like sports). We had a really stupid dress code (I wish we'd just had uniforms) and I could never find clothes that fit me and met the dress code, so I wore everything way too big on top.

I HATED clothes... until I got to college, started studying costume history, and discovered that I could find clothes that fit me when I didn't have a dress code to follow. Now I wear what I want and don't care what other people think.

I also believe that most adults haven't really moved beyond high school. There are still cliques and groups but it is a little more subtle than it was in high school. I'm glad I was part of the small uncool group because we were all so different that it was fun. I'm also glad that now as an adult I am able to find other great friends (like you!) because of social media and blogging. =) Isn't it weird how there are so many of us yet we all seem to be evenly spread out geographically?

I love your dress! Being girly is fun, especially when you don't have to be girly all the time.

~ BrookeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-294699315718764344.post-48263347318821960332014-07-28T11:10:18.839-04:002014-07-28T11:10:18.839-04:00I hung out with the bad kids, too - much more fun!...I hung out with the bad kids, too - much more fun! To me, being a geek is a license to be unique and wear whatever the inner drum is beating to. Your pink dress is gorgeous and you rock it. Don't worry about losing your goth cred - it's mostly an attitude and how you feel on the inside, not how pale you are and how much black you wear.
Bobbihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12850354275835807205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-294699315718764344.post-59379687573535425982014-07-28T09:13:20.389-04:002014-07-28T09:13:20.389-04:00Damn you, highschool!
