Why no, I haven't gotten any sewing done lately. Why, you may ask? Well I was busy blow-drying my hair.

Actually, I've been busy working and being a Good Mom by doing my once yearly visit to church to see my kids' play. They go with their Grandmother to the day camp every year and work really hard on it too. So despite my misgivings about organized religion I put on my Sunday Best and the hubby and I head out. This year my father went too.

I have cut out one knit dress and I'm about to cut out another, shorter version. And I've been taking inventory of on-hand fabrics and patterns and what I need and want to sew. Planning a wardrobe for the next couple years, as it were. Its also part of the Slow Clothes Initiative brought up on the Sew Weekly Forums. Despite my best efforts I've bought a great deal of fabric, but I was buying it with very purposeful planning. I'll probably put my sewing machine in the repair shop for servicing this coming Monday morning since I won't have any time to sew until we get back from camping. Look forward to fun photos of that!

Weekly WTF: Dr. Who?

So I get the alerts for new pattern releases. What sewing nerd doesn't? And when looking through the coats I saw V1213 (above) and thought, BUH?? So... you know when you are doing your best to use as little fabric as possible when cutting our your pattern and you are left with these very long maybe 12 inch wide strips of fabric and you think to yourself "What in the WORLD am I going to do with this?". When its too much to consider a real scrap, but not really enough to make anything else with... Well, I guess maybe some kids clothes. But how many 7-10 year old's do you know that think "Oh hey, wool trousers, THANKS MOM!". Not so many, I'd suspect.

Well, KOOS Couture for Vogue Patterns just gave us the perfect solution. That's right, here's a coat that will not only use up that pile of leftovers but it will WOW the competition. Or confuse them. Grandma might clean her glasses a couple times just to be sure she's seeing things right.

But you know what, I'm gonna get this pattern. I think it would be awesome with this scarf. At the very least I could walk around asking people if they've seen a blue phone box recently.

Weekly Wednesday WTF

Here's something I'm going to try and bring you once a week. All the things I found that made me go WTF?! Hopefully you will find them as entertaining as I do. I encourage light-hearted snark.

First lets start out with the world of patterns. OF all the big four (McCall's, Butterick, Simplicity, Vogue) I think McCall's is my least favorite for quality of drafting. But that's an aside. Their showcase in email this week was a new sheath dress M6201. Its big selling point? Embellished shoulders!

Uh... Is it just me or does that look more like someone added enough hardware to merit this at least +2 to armor bonus? She's trying out for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! (Well, maybe if it was green...)


Moving right along. Runway Fashion! Really this is just a category of WTF all on its own. You have to know what to take and what to leave. And in the Spring RTW ('ready to wear' for those of you not up on the acronyms) Marc Jacobs we have this wonderful gem. Are you as mesmerized as I am? Cause it took me a minute to realize she forgot her pants. I have to say the shoes are pretty awesome though. I guess wearing pants might detract from the shoes? Then why the glorified pasties over the shirt? I'm probably just not fashionable enough to "get it".
