Hello! Are you excited? I'm excited. I REALLY wanted to take video of my kids rolling dice for the winners but that idea turned out to be... not good. You may not know this, but my other title is "Cat Herder" and  as you can imagine its often barely controlled chaos. So, to make sure this got done today I decided to go the random number generator route.  Also, PicMonkey helped make it fancy (if you haven't checked them out, you should).  Also, a couple posts had non-contestant comments. They were omitted and my list will be up last.

Give-A-Way Five! The Slenderette!

Well, isn't this fabulous?  Not only that its a 42" bust! That's right, I pulled out another large vintage pattern for ya'll. Isn't it lovely?  This has two views, a sheath dress and an A-line.  The soft pleats in the front can be embellished.  Another great pattern for dressing up or down.  All the pieces and instructions are present.

Changes and Notes

Hello Everyone!  You might have noticed I changed a few things.  I'm trying to update the graphics to look slightly better than a trained monkey apprentice's work.  Let me know if anything is really wonky on your system.

Ok, first big note of interest, the FIFTH give-away.  I can't for the life of me remember what it was suppose to be. I'm not kidding, really.  I shouldn't be surprised though cause, for some reason, I always stress out at mid-year review time. Self reviews, does anyone else hate them?  Anyway, I'm gonna rummage around and find something awesome and I'll have it up by noon today.

Next up, my current sewing projects. Vintage beach outfits for the kids! If any of you have been following me on Pinterest you may have noticed a couple of cute summer kids patterns in there.  Check out the patterns and fabric...

Aren't these great?  Felicity's fabric is a print from a fabric my Mom bought what I was her age, so its from the 80's. I'm reclaiming some purple linen blend that was going to be a paper bag skirt for me until I realized that would be a disaster.  The blue Hawaiian fabric for Simon is a Japanese cotton I found on Etsy.  The pattern is a size 8 but I'm hoping, based on past experience with vintage children's patterns, there will be HUGE amounts of ease.

Now, in case you are wondering why I might be making beach outfits, there's two reasons. I live near a lake and its less than three weeks until ISLAND VACATION!  We're heading out to stay at a friend's beach house on Jekyll Island, just off the coast of Georgia.  A little neat bit a trivia, the very first International Telephone Call was placed from Jekyll Island.  Not remember the date at the moment, but it was early 20th century. As someone that works in Telecommunications, I think its very interesting.

Anywho.  I'm starting on these this week and I'm going to do my very best to document working with these patterns.  Its going to be my first attempt at shorts with pockets and cuffs. I'm trying not to be intimidated. Weird, huh?

Give-a-Way Four! Mad About You.

But what's up with the hat?

That's right ladies, I've got a "Mad Men" era dress here.  And in a 38" bust no less!  This is a figure flattering sheath dress with round neckline, kimono sleeves.  The matching jacket also has kimono sleeves.  Its calls for soutache trim.  I can just see all sorts of neat embellishments with this dress. Its like a canvas waiting for your brush, or sewing needle.  I think a navy blue with white trim like Gertie's dress would be fab!

This dress actually came to me in a large box of sewing patterns my wonderful friend Beth Ann (whom I stayed with in NY but has since moved). Her neighbor was having a yard sale, or moving, I don't remember which. In any case, she was lovely enough to send the box of pattern goodness my way and now I'm sharing that with you.

The directions and pattern pieces are all there. It looks like this was made up

Give-A-Way Three! Little Darling

Isn't this just darling? I personally love this look for little girls, particularly when they are under the age of five and can't really complain. I got lucky though, my daughter seems to love the retro looks. I picked this out for those of you that might not like to sew for grown ups but love sewing for children. A daughter, granddaughter, niece, or lucky friend's daughter.  I'm even throwing in some gingham cotton/poly broadcloth in pink with little flowers.  Felicity's not so in to pink these days (so... we may be painting her room soon *sighs*).  The second image even shows the ruler on the back so you can tell scale.

The print makes this weird on the eyes. I blame not thinking about this on being awake 15 hours.

 This is Simplicity 2287 in a Child Size 1 with three views, blouse, jumper,and skirt.  All the pieces and instructions are there in factory folds. This includes the transfers for the applique.  The quilters out there would love this!  Now, this is a fifties pattern and one thing I've discovered about vintage children's patterns is they run LARGE.  When you had to make most of their clothing apparently you wanted it to have room to grow.

Give-A-Way Two! That's So Seventies. **update**

I picked this pattern up in a huge antique shop during a trip to the North Georgia mountains. It was nestled between old coke-a-cola paraphernalia and ratty old taxidermy deer heads.  There was even an old electric washer with a hand wringer.  In any case, I had a certain Egyptian Goddess in mind when I found it but then it turned out she already had a copy. She'll just have to wait until she sees what else I have in the goody bag.

Anyway, here's Simplicity 6710 a CLASSIC 70's silhouette.  The pattern is printed, counted the pattern pieces and they are all there, though its been used so some of them are kinda smooshed in.  Since this is a fairly common pattern I thought I'd throw in some poly/cotton knit with tiny shoes all over it.

You know you like the tiny shoes. Don't lie.

Give-Away Day One! Its a New Look Era!

Hello fellow sewing enthusiasts! Are you ready for the first pattern up for grabs?  Rules are simple, if you follow me already, leave a comment, if you don't, follow me and leave a comment.  And for an EXTRA entry, post a comment on your blog and leave a link to the post in the comments.  Entries will be tallied numerically and, because I'm a geek, I will use dice to pick the winner.  I'm thinking I'll film my kids rolling the dice for me.  Ok, here it is! A vintage Vogue pattern 6551, I am dating this somewhere between 1947 and 1952 due to the after "New Look" vibe but before printed patterns became popular.  All the instructions and pattern pieces are included and nicely folded. As suggested already, the pattern is un-printed.  There's a beautiful tuxedo bib detail and tailored collar.  This would look beautiful done up in a wool crepe, silk faille, or a cotton poplin for areas with mild winters.  This is a size 16, Bust 34", Waist 28", Hips 37".  And don't worry, I've got something a whole range of sizes!

Actually, I'm doing TWO things.  First, I'm helping de-clutter some of my stuff.  I have a _lot_ of vintage patterns and fabric that I will never, ever use and they need new homes.  Second, I'm celebrating turning 29 for the... um... seventh time. Today is my virtual Friday, so should have the FIRST give-a-way up by Real Friday, which also happens to be my birthday.  That's right, the FIRST one, I'm doing FIVE DAYS WORTH!  Are you excited? I'm excited.  Ok, see you then!

Who Gets the Stuff?

Ok, as stated I couldn't figure out how to get the random generator to KEEP the number when I posted. Which made it look like no winner was picked or that I had just picked someone. It just seemed... wrong somehow. Also, I didn't include Ilanka in this drawing since she just wanted the applique' and she lives like 15 miles from me so she could always come over here and mug me for ask for one of the other ones.

So without further ado, I shall ask my roommate to pull a name out of a hat:

*P.S. Funny side note, I had to crop the 'pulling out of hat' photo cause I realized that I my bra was sitting on the table in plain sight. DURRRR. While those that know me are accustomed to my leaving clothing (specifically, bras) in random places, I didn't really want to show the entire internet. Though its not really random because its important to have the correct bra for the outfit, particularly when fitting, so they have a tendency to end up on my cutting table... right. anyway.

Hello! This is a little later than I expected, but here it is. I have a plethora of notions and other haberdashery taking up space in my house. I'm going to give some of it away! There's some zippers, elastics of various types (including lingerie elastic), and a bit of trim and appliqué lace.

Goodness!

I have had a sudden traffic spike and am now at a whopping 25 followers! Ok, its not much but small victories, right?

So I'm thinking of having a give-away in celebration. I have tons of vintage buttons/lace/othernotions and I'd like to share. I'll post late tonight, so stay tuned!
